ECDL Essentials
This is a level 1 course consisting of 3 modules - Computer Basics, IT Security and Electronic Communication.
The Computer Basics module introduces the learner to the Windows Operating System – navigating through the file system using Windows Explorer, the use of icons to carry out tasks such as opening files or running programs.
An introduction to basic text entry is covered by the use of Notepad as well as changing computer settings and setting up printers and virus protection.
IT security covers online security and protection of personal data, different types of malware.
This course also looks at data back up and types of storage media such as CD USB flash.
Learners are introduced to computer networks and how they are kept secure. The legal aspects of IT are also looked at, such as data protection laws.
Electronic Communication covers internet use, the use of web browsers and accessing information on the web.
Learners are taught how to use Microsoft Outlook for handling e-mails along with setting appointments using the inbuilt calendar.
All 3 modules exams must be passed in order to gain the qualification.
